Meet the team

Helen BA (Hons) QTS is Brilliant Mind’s English 11+ specialist. She has worked in many schools across Liverpool developing her teaching and learning since 2009. She has tutored over 100 students who have gained places in prestigious schools including The Liverpool Blue Coat School, Merchant Taylors, St Margaret’s, and Belvedere. Her understanding of the English assessments used for each of these schools is second to none. Helen has developed her own assessments, mark scheme, and assessment frameworks to give students focused and precise feedback. Please see our review page for student and parent feedback. Helen enjoys traveling and cuddling her two cats Feix and Alfie.

Ian BSc (Hons) PGCE QTS M.ed is our Maths entrance exam specialist. After working at The Liverpool Blue Coat School for 10 years which was voted the best state-funded school in the country in 2015 by The Sunday Times and received the best GCSE national results in 2016. Ian’s students achieved their best GCSE results in 2016, 19 A*’s and 2 A’s. In 2018 The department Ian was contributing to received an Outstanding rating by Ofsted with a special mention for outstanding results. Recently, Ian has been offered a position at Merchant Taylors School and is currently supporting Calday Grange Grammar School to improve student performance in exam conditions. With qualifications in Computer Science and a Masters in Education, Ian quickly identifies weaknesses and helps students break down problems. He encourages students to think creatively and logically about their methods. With practice, this enables students to work efficiently through tasks, reduces anxiety, improves pace, and provides students the confidence to attack the next question. Ian enjoys watching motorsport and football.
